People who work magic are called by many names in works of fantasy, and the terminology differs widely from one fantasy literature to another. While derived from real world vocabulary, "wizard", "witch", "enchanter/enchantress", "sorcerer/sorceress", "magician", have within a particular work of fantasy literature the meaning the writer invests in them. Which is to say: They are whatever the writer says they are.
